About

Contrary to the title, in India women can’t do anything Just Like That. Mrs Sharma, the main character, can’t just live by herself after her husband dies and take up a job – the society expects her to move in with her son. She can’t oppose her children’s will either; she ends up being called by many an egocentric, some even suggest she’s possessed.

In his debut film, Kislay attempts to deconstruct the systemic and social patriarchy by telling a story about an individual’s fight for normality. A fight for issues about which we don’t even think about on a daily basis, such as the right to self-determination or to manage your own finances. The director attempts to re-establish the empowerment of the symbol of the mother so important in India, about which the society seems to forget. There’s nothing more than hope that Mrs. Sharma’s small revolution, which connects screen fiction with reality, will mark the beginning of big changes.
