About

The 45-year-old widower Justino lives together with his daughter in Amazonia’s rainforests. His life, similarly to the lives of many native inhabitants of the Desana tribe, is torn between working in the town and living in an Amazonian enclave. Maya Da-Rin’s fiction debut tells a story about a man who suffers from persistent fevers. In his case, conventional medicine proves futile. The doctors don’t know how to help him. The man is resigned to everyday functioning in the state of hyperthermia. “The Fever” is full of resonating topics which concern present-day Brazil: social inequalities, tropical rainforest conservation, unequal access to health services. The film confronts the big-city oppression with the distance characteristic of a small village. The main character, for years in suspension between these contradictions, finally has to make a choice to ensure himself life harmony. “The Fever” is also a story about a country full of contradictions, in which, for instance, an unusual dialect may result in social exclusion.
