Transatlantyk International Film and Music Festival would like to invite you to the Opening Ceremony, which will be held on August 5th at 8PM at the Adam Mickiewicz University Auditorium. The evening will feature a film music concert performed by the Festival Orchestra and Choir conducted by Maciej Sztor, as well as the screening of Kamil Polak’s film “Świteź”. During the gala, some of Transatlantyk Festival’s guests will be introduced and two important festival Awards will be handed out.
During the concert, we’ll hear music composed by Ennio Morricone, John Williams, John Barry and Jan A.P. Kaczmarek. It will be performed by the Festival Orchestra and Choir conducted by Maciej Sztor. The solist will be Agata Szymczewska, playing her Stradivarius violin. Kamil Polak’s film “Świteź”, which received awards in Annecy and Palm Springs since its premiere at this year’s Berlinale, will also be screened.
Glocal Hero Award – for the person whose work has both a local and a global impact – will go to Bjørn Lomborg, named by The Guardian as “one of 50 people who can save the planet”. The Danish scientist, writer, and celebrity wrote a book about global warming that has been translated into 17 languages. World Economic Forum named him Global Leader for Tomorrow; he has been published by The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, USA Today, The Economist, The Guardian, The Times, LA Times, Boston Globe, and appeared on Larry King Live. In his Consensus Center project he gathered the world’s top economists (including five Nobel Prize winners) to search for an answer to a question on how to do the most good having limited resources. As a result two books were written, “Global Crisis, Global Solutions” and “How to Spend Fifty Billion to Make the World a Better Place”.
Bjørn Lomborg will also make an appearance at the Polish premiere of Ondi Timoner’s “Cool It” on Saturday, August 6th at Multikino 51 at 5 P.M. The documentary focuses on the facts and myths regarding global warming, introduces the audience to the scientist behind the film, which is the main event of the Transatlantyk Eco section. Bjørn Lomborg will take part in the debate about counteracting climate change effects.
Transatlantyk Oceans Award – for the most interesting film music by a young composer in the past year – will go to Bartosz Chajdecki. He started composing when he was 12. He composed film, TV, and theater music. His work for the TV production “Czas Honoru“ (“Time of Honor“) about the WWII Polish resistance won him faithful fans and received praise from the notaries of polish and the international film industry. It was recently nominated for a prestigious International Film Music Critics Association award for Best Original Score for a Television Series. In its category, the Polish production competed against such world famous series as “Doctor Who“, “Lost“ and “Human Target“.
